Anindya Dutta is the CEO of Stanza Living, a leading student accommodation company in India. Prior to joining Stanza Living, Dutta was the Managing Director and CEO of Magna Money, a fintech startup that provided micro-lending solutions to underserved communities in India. He has also worked with leading financial institutions such as Barclays, Bank of America, and Citibank in various senior leadership roles.
Spire Founder – Can you tell us about your background and how you became CEO of Stanza Living?
Anindya – I have a background in investment banking, private equity, and entrepreneurship. I co-founded Stanza Living in 2017 with Sandeep Dalmia after we both identified a huge gap in the student housing market. We were both passionate about solving this problem, and over time, I took on the role of CEO as the company grew.
Spire Founder – What was the inspiration behind Stanza Living, and how does it differ from traditional student housing options?
Anindya – We realized that there was a huge gap in the student housing market in India – students were looking for more than just a place to stay. They wanted a community, a sense of belonging, and a support system that could help them navigate their college journey.
Stanza Living was created to provide all of these things – we offer fully-furnished, tech-enabled living spaces, along with curated experiences, a strong support system and a sense of community.
Spire Founder – What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as CEO of Stanza Living?
Anindya – One of the biggest challenges we face is constantly adapting to changing market conditions and consumer preferences. We have to stay nimble and agile and be able to pivot quickly to address new challenges and opportunities.
Spire Founder – What are some of the unique features of Stanza Living that sets it apart from other student housing options?
Anindya – Our focus on creating a sense of community is a key differentiator for us. We offer a range of curated experiences and events that bring our residents together, and we have a dedicated community team that helps to foster a sense of belonging and support.
We also invest heavily in technology to provide a seamless and convenient living experience for our residents.
Spire Founder – How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted Stanza Living, and what steps have you taken to adapt?
Anindya – The pandemic has been a challenging time for us, as it has been for many businesses. However, we have taken a number of steps to adapt to the new normal.
We have implemented enhanced health and safety protocols in our properties, and we have also launched a range of digital tools to help our residents stay connected and engaged while they are social distancing.

Spire Founder – What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
Anindya – My advice would be to focus on solving a real problem and creating value for your customers. It’s also important to be persistent and not give up in the face of challenges. Finally, surround yourself with a great team and always be open to learning and evolving.
